Projects
W. L. Reid & Associates utilize their extensive software engineering background to assist clients in the development of new products. Our technical writers have written and edited numerous documents about real-time embedded software systems. Some of the projects are described below. The links below will display an example of related documentation. Examples of our work are also shown on the examples pages. Satellink Technologies An information services provider engaged in the distribution of weather and other critical real time data to aviation and marine users. Our understanding of the requirements allowed us to produce documentation in accordance with FAA standards. The system required two software products. The transmit software hosted on an Intel based PC received data from various data providers and transmitted the data via satellite to the Merlin Receiver. The receiver software hosted on an ARM based embedded real-time SBC received and processed the data for output onto various devices.
Vantage Trucking Solutions The MSC2200 tracking unit was a component for a wireless-based network. It provided real-time report information via the Orbcomm satellite network. Our technical writers edited an updated the Software Requirements Specification, Software Design Document and Software Test Plan for the MSC2200 tracking unit.
Orbcomm A member of our staff contracted with Orbcomm, a satellite messaging service company as a software engineer and held a position in the Ground Earth Station Group. Primary responsibilities included the production of several documents compliant to ISO –9000 writing standard.
GRCI This client had a contract to support Lucent Technologies in their development of real-time embedded software systems for the Digital Access Communication System (DACS). A member of our staff was responsible for the development of the hardware error recovery software for the hybrid DS3 unit (HDS3). The error recovery process performed error source analysis and initiated a protection switch to redundant circuit packs in order to avoid breaks in communications traffic flow. Our technical writer produced necessary documentation for this project.
Hughes Training Inc. This client had a requirement to develop a real-time application to load mission data into the memory units residing in the FA-18 Flight Simulator. The application was required to interface with the hardware memory units over the 1553 mil-std data bus. The software engineer is now a member of our staff and produced requirement documents, design documents and test plans compliant to ISO –9000 writing standard.
