Software Configuration Plan
The professionals at W. L. Reid & Associates understand the need for evaluating, coordinating and implementing changes in software systems. A defined set of policies and standards documented in a plan provides the methodologies for managing changes. W. L. Reid & associates develop plans that maintain the configuration of the software products throughout the software’s life cycles. The plan identifies the configuration items and establish procedures for controlling and changing these items. It also provides a protocol for recording, reporting status and activity changes for the configuration items. It is not uncommon for teams to exist in different areas and use different versions of a software product. Our plan eliminate the confusion that occur due to version changes with a well written plan. Along with identifying the configuration items, the procedures define how the configuration items are named, how they enter and exit the controlled environment, how the item is allowed to change, how different versions of an item are made available, conditions how the different version are used, and the tools used to maintain and enforce the configuration management process. We produce industry-standard documentation using content that will encourage a continued use of the process. Documentation that is too abstract will result in an unused process, which can affect the ability to build or deploy a software system in an efficient manner. it is important to document and implement the CM procedures before the deployment of a software product. If CM occurs to late, it will become very expensive and time consuming to reproduce earlier versions.
