Software Risk Management Plans

W. L. Reid & Associates consult with the subject matter experts and formulate a document that identifies risks to the software projects. Our documentation shows the risk analysis, the probability of occurrence and impact for each risk item. Our documentation describes the interrelationships between individual risks, which risks are important and contain mitigation plans for significant risks. The documentation include a traceable risk process used to determine the effectiveness of the mitigation actions and the risk process. We provide our clients with continuous updates on changes or decisions made on the risk process.

Inducing a standard for identifying a risk provides clarity and consistency. It's a critical component of risk management and serves as a basis for future risk mitigation planning. At W. L. Reid & Associates, risk are identified by its condition and its consequence. The condition should be based on fact and provides the reader with the anomalous condition or circumstance that causes concern. At least one possible consequence is noted so that future readers of the risk item will better understand the original concern.

A risk management plan based on pure abstractions will result in an ineffective and unused risk management program. The outcome of poorly written plans are unwanted surprises seen by management, missed deadlines, and poor quality of work.  The biggest risk to a project is the failure to impose a risk management program.  W. L. Reid & Associates can help decrease the risk by developing an understandable plan that can be tracked throughout the life of the project.
